The so-called ” New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 (NYSAFE)”
was bulldozed through the New York State Senate and Assembly yesterday, January 15, 2013.
In the Senate, literally it was done in the dark of night. So much for transparency and “open government”.

This passage of this law was done in apparent contravention of traditional Senate and Assembly rules.
It was done at lightening speed, without public disclosure, public discussion, public input, and was done without any substantiating research or data. The vote in the Senate was 43 to 14, and the Assembly was 104 to 43. Clearly, many legislators chose to stab lawful gun owners in the back.

It is an example of “Blitzkreig Legislating”.

Members can read the text of the bill at:

At this time W.C.F.O.A. and its attorneys are conferring with the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association and the National Rifle Associatiion, and their attorneys. The abomination passed as NYSAFE act of 2013 has raised many legal questions and requires careful analysis. Once the true effects are defined, we can look to bring legal action as appropriate.

Any members who are attorneys with expertise in the areas affected by NYSAFE are invited to submit comments which will be passed on to the attorneys already reviewing the matter. A number of concerns at this point are the taking of property, forced divestment of lawful property, etc.. This is in addition to the civil, legal and Second Amendment rights issues involved. This is a complex case and any legal response must be carefully planned.
