Citing the “spirit” of the new NYSAFE gun law recently signed into law by
Governor Cuomo, the Journal News has taken down its universally condemned
“interactive pistol licensee map”.

The map exposed pistol license holders to real harm by listing their names,
addresses and Google Maps views of their homes. Active and retired police,
peace officers, correction officers, judges, battered spouses and more were
put at real risk by the irresponsible actions of the Journal News.

WCFOA was instrumental in calling for a boycott of all advertisers who
used the Journal News and who would not suspend their ads because of
this reckless act. Many subscribers to the Journal News (and the other
Gannett outlets in the area) cancelled their subscriptions. Our information
shows that the boycott and subscription cancellations are exacting a heavy
toll on the Journal News. The boycott has gone nationwide and Gannett
media holdings across the country are experiencing citizen backlash
over their extreme anti-gun policies.

Despite the taking down of the map, all concerned citizens need to continue
to pressure advertisers and Gannett. In a press release, JN publisher Janet
Hasson remains defiant:

She states:

“Make no mistake, The Journal News will continue to report aggressively on gun ownership. We will continue
to pursue our request for data from Putnam County and will closely analyze the data for Westchester and Rockland
counties when it once again becomes publicly available. And we will keep a snapshot of our map with all its red dots
on our website to remind the community that guns are a fact of life we should never forget.”

The Journal News published a pistol license “list” before, in 2006, and will no doubt do so again. As long as the Journal News
is able they will be a steadfast foe of lawful, legal firearm owners.

CONTINUE TO BOYCOTT JOURNAL NEWS ADVERTISERS AND EXPOSE THE ANTI-GUN AGENDA
ESPOUSED BY GANNETT.
