KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police chased a car at high speeds down 169 Highway, after police suspected the person inside attempted to rob the First Security Bank of Trimble, 202 Highway 169, in Trimble, Mo.

The FBI said a man walked into the bank, showed a weapon and demanded cash. He was shot in the face by a civilian in the bank during the attempted robbery and then left, the FBI said.

Police apparently pursued the car down 169 Highway to I-435 and put down spikes to stop the car. The pursuit ended at I-435 just south of 152 Highway.

The man has been taken to the hospital. His condition is not known.

The southbound lanes of I-435 were shut down at 152 Highway for some time.

Trimble is about 25 miles north of downtown Kansas City — and just six miles from Smithville.
