Sullivan legislators will push for a county stand against state gun control

MONTICELLO – “I don’t like things being shoved down our throats,” said Sullivan County Legislator Gene Benson, who is pushing for the legislature to go on record opposing New York’s new gun control measure. Benson says once word got out about his intent to defend the Second Amendment, the feedback has been overwhelming.

“It’s Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives”, said Benson.I’ve actually talked to a lot of constituents in my own district. I’m also hearing from people all over the county thanking me for doing what I’m doing.”

Benson, and another Democrat, Cora Edwards, have coauthored a resolution calling for repeal of the NY SAFE legislation. The full legislature will vote on the resolution later this month.
