Louisiana: Mandatory Training Bill Fails to Advance from Committee

This Wednesday, House Bill 13 was voluntarily deferred by its sponsor, state Representative Austin Badon (D-New Orleans), after the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee failed to advance it on a 6-to-6 tie vote.  This NRA-opposed bill would have made it unlawful for a federal firearm licensed dealer (FFL) to transfer a firearm without verifying that the purchaser had completed a gun safety training course.  This was not about requiring training to obtain a permit to carry firearms for self-defense — this would have required training to simply purchase a firearm to own in your home.
